The LORD answered: They claim to speak for me, but they're lying! I didn't even speak to them, much less choose them to be my prophets. Their messages come from worthless dreams, useless fortunetelling, and their own imaginations.

Long ago you left me and broke all ties between us, refusing to be my servant. Now you worship other gods by having sex on hilltops or in the shade of large trees.

I tried punishing you, but you refused to come back to me, and like fierce lions you killed my prophets.

Prophets give their messages in the name of a false god, my priests don't want to serve me, and you--my own people-- like it this way! But on the day of disaster, where will you turn for help?

Everyone is greedy and dishonest, whether poor or rich. Even the prophets and priests cannot be trusted.

Your prophets deceived you with false visions and lying messages-- they should have warned you to leave your sins and be saved from disaster.

You have murdered so many people that the city is filled with dead bodies!

Their leaders are like roaring lions, tearing apart their victims. They put people to death, then steal everything of value. Husbands are killed, and many women are left as widows.

But you prove that you really are the relatives of the ones who killed the prophets.

Is there one prophet that your ancestors didn't mistreat? They killed the prophets who told about the coming of the One Who Obeys God. And now you have turned against him and killed him.
