After David had everyone counted, he felt guilty and told the LORD, "What I did was stupid and terribly wrong. LORD, please forgive me."

but you catch and punish me each time I sin.

Remember that you molded me like a piece of clay. So don't turn me back into dust once again.

If you can prove me guilty, I will give up and die.

Humans are different-- we die, and that's the end.

Then I could greet the grave as my father and say to the worms, "Hello, mother and sisters!"

They will be forgotten like a dream

Those sinners may go to bed rich, but they will wake up poor.

Now I would be at peace in the silent world below

that you are innocent, guilty of nothing.

I will vanish from sight, and no one, including you, will ever see me again.

but my sufferings frighten me, because I know that God still considers me guilty.

We humans are like grass or wild flowers that quickly bloom.

Suddenly they disappeared! I looked, but they were gone and no longer there.

So our bodies return to the earth, and the life-giving breath returns to God.

Your people will rise to life! Tell them to leave their graves and celebrate with shouts. You refresh the earth like morning dew; you give life to the dead.

Don't be so furious or keep our sins in your thoughts forever! Remember that all of us are your people.

Many of those who lie dead in the ground will rise from death. Some of them will be given eternal life, and others will receive nothing but eternal shame and disgrace.

Return to the LORD and say, "Please forgive our sins. Accept our good sacrifices of praise instead of bulls.

The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said: Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.

But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away.

You know that Christ came to take away sins. He isn't sinful,
