When criminals attacked, I broke their teeth and set their victims free.

The persons they mistreated had prayed for help, until God answered their prayers.

But still, he punishes rulers who abuse their people.

Hard times and trouble are God's way of getting our attention!

The wicked are cut down, and those who are wronged receive justice.

But its light is too much for those who are evil, and their power is broken.

They may roar and growl like powerful lions. But when God breaks their teeth,

they starve, and their children are scattered.

You will be sheltered, without fear of hurtful words or any other weapon.

But you see the trouble and the distress, and you will do something. The poor can count on you, and so can orphans.

You listen to the longings of those who suffer. You offer them hope, and you pay attention to their cries for help.

When you are suffering and in need, he will come to your rescue, and your families will grow as fast as a herd of sheep.

You help everyone in need, and you defend them when they are on trial.

Our LORD, I know that you defend the homeless and see that the poor are given justice.

Every bone in my body will shout: "No one is like the LORD!" You protect the helpless from those in power; you save the poor and needy from those who hurt them.

Let the king defend the poor, rescue the homeless, and crush everyone who hurts them.
