Will it keep me company in the world of the dead?

I wish I had been born dead and then buried, never to see the light of day.

I said to myself, "The dead are better off than the living.

Their loves, their hates, and their jealous feelings have all disappeared with them. They will never again take part in anything that happens on this earth.

Don't be afraid of people. They can kill you, but they cannot harm your soul. Instead, you should fear God who can destroy both your body and your soul in hell.

My friends, don't be afraid of people. They can kill you, but after that, there is nothing else they can do.

We should do our best to enter that place of rest, so that none of us will disobey and miss going there, as they did.

But God has promised us a Sabbath when we will rest, even though it has not yet come.

Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Put this in writing. From now on, the Lord will bless everyone who has faith in him when they die." The Spirit answered, "Yes, they will rest from their hard work, and they will be rewarded for what they have done."

Tomorrow the LORD will let the Philistines defeat Israel's army, then you and your sons will join me down here in the world of the dead.
