Then the LORD said: Why have you done this terrible thing? You killed your own brother, and his blood flowed onto the ground. Now his blood is calling out for me to punish you.

They crush olives to make oil and grapes to make wine-- but still they go thirsty.

Some rebel and refuse to follow the light.

When a good person dies a sudden death, God sits back and laughs.

And who else but God blindfolds the judges, then lets the wicked take over the earth?

The wicked don't respect you. In their hearts they say, "God won't punish us!"

I am poor and helpless, and I have lost all hope.

But you, LORD, tell them, "I will do something! The poor are mistreated and helpless people moan. I'll rescue all who suffer."

When you did all of this, I didn't say a word, and you thought, "God is just like us!" But now I will accuse you.

They cause trouble for people you have already punished; their gossip hurts those you have wounded.

because that is the only cover the poor have when they sleep at night. I am a merciful God, and when they call out to me, I will come to help them.

I looked again and saw people being mistreated everywhere on earth. They were crying, but no one was there to offer comfort, and those who mistreated them were powerful.

and now another nation has taken you prisoner for no reason at all. Your leaders groan with pain, and day after day my own name is cursed.

Whenever I complain to you, LORD, you are always fair. But now I have questions about your justice. Why is life easy for sinners? Why are they successful?

You plant them like trees; you let them prosper and produce fruit. Yet even when they praise you, they don't mean it.

You have worn out the LORD with your words. And yet, you ask, "How did we do that?" You did it by saying, "The LORD is pleased with evil and doesn't care about justice."

See how happy those arrogant people are. Everyone who does wrong is successful, and when they put God to the test, they always get away with it."

Don't forget that the Lord is patient because he wants people to be saved. This is also what our dear friend Paul said when he wrote you with the wisdom that God had given him.

Then the Israelites got rid of the idols of the foreign gods, and they began worshiping only the LORD. Finally, there came a time when the LORD could no longer stand to see them suffer.
