Solomon, my son, worship God and obey him with all your heart and mind, just as I have done. He knows all your thoughts and your reasons for doing things, and so if you turn to him, he will hear your prayers. But if you ignore him, he will reject you forever.

This is what God has decided for those who are evil.

Those who are evil say to God All-Powerful, "Leave us alone! Don't bother us with your teachings.

You ask, "Where is the home of that important person who does so much evil?"

Your tent pegs are pulled up, and you leave this life, having gained no wisdom."

Get angry with those nations that don't know you and won't worship you!

"Who is this LORD and why should I obey him?" the king replied. "I refuse to let you and your people go!"

Our enemies refuse to admit that you are God or to worship you. They have wiped out our people and left our nation lying in ruins. So get angry and sweep them away!

The LORD replied: Lies come from the mouths of my people, like arrows from a bow. With each dishonest deed their power increases, and not one of them will admit that I am God.

Since these people refused even to think about God, he let their useless minds rule over them. That's why they do all sorts of indecent things.

Don't be a slave of your desires or live like people who don't know God.

Such people claim to know God, but their actions prove that they really don't. They are disgusting. They won't obey God, and they are too worthless to do anything good.

Eli's sons were priests, but they were dishonest and refused to obey the LORD. So, while people were boiling the meat from their sacrifices, these priests would send over a servant with a large, three-pronged fork.
