If you try to farm the land, it won't produce anything for you. From now on, you'll be without a home, and you'll spend the rest of your life wandering from place to place.

Darkness, despair, and death are their destiny.

They are overcome with despair, like a terrified king about to go into battle.

They won't escape the darkness, and the blazing breath of God will set their future aflame.

Starving, they run, only to meet disaster,

thrown far from the light into a world of darkness,

make his children beg for food and live in the slums.

They search for scraps of food, and they snarl until they are stuffed.

But I will sing about your strength, my God, and I will celebrate because of your love. You are my fortress, my place of protection in times of trouble.

If you obey the LORD, you won't go hungry; if you are wicked, God won't let you have what you want.

The LORD has a reason for everything he does, and he lets evil people live only to be punished.

Even if you live to a ripe old age, you should try to enjoy each day, because darkness will come and will last a long time. Nothing makes sense.

We had to surrender to Egypt and Assyria because we were hungry.

We are in danger from brutal desert tribes; we must risk our lives just to bring in our crops.

It will be dark and gloomy with storm clouds overhead. Troops will cover the mountains like thunderclouds. No army this powerful has ever been gathered before or will ever be again.

The day when the LORD judges will be dark, very dark, without a ray of light.

It will be a time of anger-- of trouble and torment, of disaster and destruction, of darkness and despair, of storm clouds and shadows,

They are God's enemies, and all they can look forward to is a terrible judgment and a furious fire.
