Near the city of Heshbon, where Sihon once ruled, tired refugees stand in shadows cast by the flames of their burning city. Soon, the towns on other hilltops, where those warlike people live, will also go up in smoke.

The Israelites sent this message to King Sihon of the Amorites:

King Sihon had ruled from Heshbon, after defeating the Moabites and taking over their land north of the Arnon River gorge.

His armies marched out like fiery flames, burning down the town of Ar and destroying the hills along the Arnon River.

You Moabites are done for! Your god Chemosh deserted your people; they were captured, taken away by King Sihon the Amorite.

"What I saw in my vision hasn't happened yet. But someday, a king of Israel will appear like a star. He will wipe out you Moabites and destroy those tribes who live in the desert.

Jesus replied, "You surely know that the Scriptures say, 'The stone that the builders tossed aside is now the most important stone of all. This is something the Lord has done, and it is amazing to us.'
