On the day they attack, they will roar like the ocean. And across the land you will see nothing but darkness and trouble, because the light of day will be covered by thick clouds.

Now those of us on Zion cry, 'We are ruined! We can't stand the shame. Our homes have been destroyed, and we must leave our land.'

Your festivals and joyful singing will turn into sorrow. You will wear sackcloth and shave your heads, as you would at the death of your only son. It will be a horrible day.

They make fun of rulers and laugh at fortresses, while building dirt mounds so they can capture cities.

I am sending the Babylonians. They are fierce and cruel-- marching across the land, conquering cities and towns.
