Someday I will appoint an honest king from the family of David, a king who will be wise and rule with justice.

Our Mighty Rock, the God of Jacob, told me, "A ruler who obeys God and does right

and ride out in splendor! Win victories for truth and mercy and justice. Do fearsome things with your powerful arm.

With your own hands you planted its roots, and you raised it as your very own.

You are our mighty King, a lover of fairness, who sees that justice is done everywhere in Israel.

You, LORD, are above all others, and you live in the heavens. You have brought justice and fairness to Jerusalem;

The time is coming when the LORD will make his land fruitful and glorious again, and the people of Israel who survive will take great pride in what the land produces.

I chose you to bring justice, and I am here at your side. I selected and sent you to bring light and my promise of hope to the nations.

They will admit that I alone can bring about justice. Everyone who is angry with me will be terribly ashamed and will turn to me.

The LORD says: My servant will succeed! He will be given great praise and the highest honors.

The LORD decided his servant would suffer as a sacrifice to take away the sin and guilt of others. Now the servant will live to see his own descendants. He did everything the LORD had planned.

Like a young plant or a root that sprouts in dry ground, the servant grew up obeying the LORD. He wasn't some handsome king. Nothing about the way he looked made him attractive to us.

The boots of marching warriors and the blood-stained uniforms have been fed to flames and eaten by fire.

A child has been born for us. We have been given a son who will be our ruler. His names will be Wonderful Advisor and Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.

His power will never end; peace will last forever. He will rule David's kingdom and make it grow strong. He will always rule with honesty and justice. The LORD All-Powerful will make certain that all of this is done.

More cedar in your palace doesn't make you a better king than your father Josiah. He always did right-- he gave justice to the poor and was honest.

Erase the names of Jehoiachin's children from the royal records. He is a complete failure, and so none of them will ever be king. I, the LORD, have spoken.

As long as he is king, Israel will have peace, and Judah will be safe. The name of this king will be "The LORD Gives Justice."

I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering.

Someday I will let my people from both Israel and Judah return to the land I gave their ancestors."

Then you will be my servants, and I will choose a king for you from the family of David. *

Someday, Israel and Judah will be my field where my people and their livestock will grow.

I will leave Jerusalem in ruins when my chosen one comes to punish this city.

to look for those that are lost and bring back the ones that wander off, to bandage those that are hurt and protect the ones that are weak. I will also slaughter those that are fat and strong, because I always do right.

I will make their fields produce large amounts of crops, so they will never again go hungry or be laughed at by foreigners.

God has decided that for seventy weeks, your people and your holy city must suffer as the price of their sins. Then evil will disappear, and justice will rule forever; the visions and words of the prophets will come true, and a most holy place will be dedicated.

Israel and Judah will unite and choose one leader. Then they will take back their land, and this will be a great day for Jezreel.

But later, Israel will turn back to the LORD their God and to David their king. At that time they will come to the LORD with fear and trembling, and he will be good to them.

In the future, I will rebuild David's fallen kingdom. I will build it from its ruins and set it up again, just as it used to be.

The LORD will abandon Israel only until this ruler is born, and the rest of his family returns to Israel.

Listen carefully, High Priest Joshua and all of you other priests. You are a sign of things to come, because I am going to bring back my servant, the Chosen King.

Everyone in Jerusalem, celebrate and shout! Your king has won a victory, and he is coming to you. He is humble and rides on a donkey; he comes on the colt of a donkey.

and said, "Where is the child born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."

Philip then found Nathanael and said, "We have found the one that Moses and the Prophets wrote about. He is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth."

Nathanael said, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God and the King of Israel!"

You are God's children. He sent Christ Jesus to save us and to make us wise, acceptable, and holy.

But the Lord found fault with it and said, "I tell you the time will come, when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and the people of Judah.

I looked and saw that heaven was open, and a white horse was there. Its rider was called Faithful and True, and he is always fair when he judges or goes to war.
