Since the time of our ancestors, all of us have sinned. That's why we, our kings, and our priests have often been defeated by other kings. They have killed some of us and made slaves of others; they have taken our possessions and made us ashamed, just as we are today.

Those who brag about the useless idols they worship are terribly ashamed, and all the false gods bow down to the LORD.

You will be made ashamed of those groves of trees where you worshiped idols.

Everyone who makes idols and all who worship them are mere humans, who will end up sadly disappointed. Let them face me in court and be terrified.

Those people who make idols are nothing themselves, and the idols they treasure are just as worthless. Worshipers of idols are blind, stupid, and foolish.

When Assyria let you down, you ran to Egypt, but you'll find no help there,

Now you will be disgraced because of your sins. Your leaders will be swept away by the wind, and the nations you trusted will be captured and dragged to a foreign country.

The LORD said, "When all this happens, the king and his officials, the prophets and the priests will be shocked and terrified."

You made fun of my people and treated them like criminals caught in the act.

Then you will be ashamed of how you've acted, and Sodom and Samaria will be relieved that they weren't as sinful as you.

The priests of Israel ignore my Law! Not only do they refuse to respect any of my sacred things, but they don't even teach the difference between what is sacred and what is ordinary, or between what is clean and what is unclean. They treat my Sabbath like any other day, and so my own people no longer honor me.

The LORD All-Powerful has said, "I am sending this scroll into the house of everyone who is a robber or tells lies in my name, and it will remain there until every piece of wood and stone in that house crumbles."

But what good did you receive from the things you did? All you have to show for them is your shame, and they lead to death.
