When news reached the royal palace that Syria had joined forces with Israel, King Ahaz and everyone in Judah were so terrified that they shook like trees in a windstorm.

I will make sure that one of your descendants will always be king.

But the LORD will make more trouble for your people and your kingdom than any of you have known since Israel broke away from Judah. He will even bring the king of Assyria to attack you.

Don't call something a rebellious plot, just because they do, and don't be afraid of something, just because they are.

and all of them knew it, including everyone in the capital city of Samaria. But they were proud and stubborn and said,

Each new day, make sure that justice is done, and rescue those who are being robbed. Or else my anger will flame up like a fire that never goes out.

All day long Israel chases wind from the desert; deceit and violence are found everywhere. Treaties are made with Assyria; olive oil is taken to Egypt.

When King Herod heard about this, he was worried, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem.
