You, LORD, are our Father. We are nothing but clay, but you are the potter who molded us.

Why do you take such delight in destroying those you created and in smiling on sinners?

You know the LORD is God! He created us, and we belong to him; we are his people, the sheep in his pasture.

You created me and put me together. Make me wise enough to learn what you have commanded.

You, LORD, will always treat me with kindness. Your love never fails. You have made us what we are. Don't give up on us now!

(A special psalm by Asaph.) Our God, why have you completely rejected us? Why are you so angry with the ones you care for?

Bow down and worship the LORD our Creator!

If you do, the Egyptians will say that you brought your people out here into the mountains just to get rid of them. Please don't be angry with your people. Don't destroy them!

Then tell him that I have said, "Israel is my first-born son,

then the LORD All-Powerful will bless them by saying, "The Egyptians are my people. I created the Assyrians and chose the Israelites."

You have it all backwards. A clay dish doesn't say to the potter, "You didn't make me. You don't even know how."

But I wipe away your sins because of who I am. And so, I will forget the wrongs you have done.

They are my people-- I created each of them to bring honor to me."

People of Israel, you are my servant, so remember all of this. Israel, I created you, and you are my servant. I won't forget you.

Israel, I am your LORD. I am your source of life, and I have rescued you. I created everything from the sky above to the earth below.

I am the LORD, the Creator, the holy God of Israel. Do you dare question me about my own nation or about what I have done?

Israel, you have no right to argue with your Creator. You are merely a clay pot shaped by a potter. The clay doesn't ask, "Why did you make me this way? Where are the handles?"

My people, I won't stay angry and keep on accusing you. After all, I am your Creator. I don't want you to give up in complete despair.

Your people will live right and always own the land; they are the trees I planted to bring praise to me.

Our ancestors Abraham and Jacob have both rejected us. But you are still our Father; you have been our protector since ancient times.

The LORD rescued his people, and said, "They are mine. They won't betray me."

A child has been born for us. We have been given a son who will be our ruler. His names will be Wonderful Advisor and Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.

They will weep and pray as I bring them home. I will lead them to streams of water. They will walk on a level road and not stumble. I am a father to Israel, my favorite children.

Someday it will be impossible to count the people of Israel, because there will be as many of them as there are grains of sand along the seashore. They are now called "Not My People," but in the future they will be called "Children of the Living God."

Don't you know that we all have God as our Father? Didn't the one God create each of us? Then why do you cheat each other by breaking the agreement God made with your ancestors?

But you are doing exactly what your father does." "Don't accuse us of having someone else as our father!" they said. "We just have one father, and he is God."

All of you are God's children because of your faith in Christ Jesus.

So if you belong to Christ, you are now part of Abraham's family, and you will be given what God has promised.

God planned for us to do good things and to live as he has always wanted us to live. That's why he sent Christ to make us what we are.

Israel, the LORD is your Father, the one who created you, but you repaid him by being foolish.

But you, our LORD, chose the people of Israel to be your own, and with your mighty power you rescued them from Egypt.
