Jerusalem is now in ruins! Nothing is left of the city. But it will be rebuilt and soon overcrowded; its cruel enemies will be gone far away.

They're well and healthy now, but we'll finish them off once and for all.

Your country lies in ruins; your towns are in ashes. Foreigners and strangers take and destroy your land while you watch.

Jerusalem and Judah, you rebelled against your glorious LORD-- your words and your actions, made you stumble and fall.

"Your city will be built faster than it was destroyed -- those who attacked it will retreat and leave.

This is what the LORD says: I will answer your prayers because I have set a time when I will help by coming to save you. I have chosen you to take my promise of hope to other nations. You will rebuild the country from its ruins, then people will come and settle there.

It will turn into a desert, neither pruned nor hoed; it will be covered with thorns and briars. I will command the clouds not to send rain.

Though Zion is in ruins, the LORD will bring comfort, and the city will be as lovely as the garden of Eden that he provided. Then Zion will celebrate; it will be thankful and sing joyful songs.

You and your descendants will take over the land of other nations. You will settle in towns that are now in ruins.

But if your enemies try to rob or destroy you, I will rob and destroy them, and they will be led as captives to foreign lands.

I am the LORD All-Powerful, the God of Israel, and I make this promise-- "Soon Babylon will be leveled and packed down like a threshing place at harvest time."

I will punish Marduk, the god of Babylon, and make him vomit up everything he gobbled down. Then nations will no longer bring him gifts, and Babylon's walls will crumble.

They ruined and crushed you from every side, and foreign nations captured and made fun of you.

I will bring them home from Egypt and Assyria, then let them settle as far as Gilead and Lebanon, until the land overflows with them.

When he does, many nations will turn to him and become his people. At that time you will know that I am a prophet of the LORD All-Powerful.

and said, "Hurry! Tell that man with the measuring line that Jerusalem won't have any boundaries. It will be too full of people and animals even to have a wall.

Then the glorious LORD All-Powerful ordered me to say to the nations that had raided and robbed Zion: Zion is as precious to the LORD as are his eyes. Whatever you do to Zion, you do to him.
