Someone told David, "Ahithophel is helping Absalom plot against you!" David said, "Please, LORD, keep Ahithophel's plans from working!"

Ahithophel gave such good advice in those days that both Absalom and David thought it came straight from God.

When Ahithophel saw that Absalom and the leaders of Israel were not going to follow his advice, he saddled his donkey and rode back to his home in Gilo. He told his family and servants what to do. Then he hanged himself, and they buried him in his family's burial place.

Ahab's body was taken to Samaria and buried there.

All the prophets agreed that Ahab should attack the Syrians at Ramoth and promised that the LORD would help him defeat them.

The fighting lasted all day, with Ahab propped up in his chariot so he could see the Syrian troops. He stayed there until evening, and by sundown he was dead.

The LORD destroys the plans and spoils the schemes of the nations.

The magicians were suffering so much from the sores, that they could not even come to Moses.

"Egypt will be discouraged when I confuse their plans. They will try to get advice from their idols, from the spirits of the dead, and from fortunetellers.

So once again I will do things that shock and amaze them, and I will destroy the wisdom of those who claim to know and understand."

The LORD All-Powerful says about Edom: Wisdom and common sense have vanished from Teman. I will send disaster to punish you descendants of Esau, so anyone from Dedan had better turn around and run back home.

This war will prove that your prophets are liars and fools. And it will frighten your warriors.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, the true King, promise that the officials and advisors, the governors and leaders and the soldiers of Babylon will get drunk, fall asleep, and never wake up.

From then on, whenever the king asked for advice, he found their wisdom was ten times better than that of any of his other advisors and magicians.

After they arrived, I told them my dream, but they were not able to say what it meant.

Israel, the time has come. You will get what you deserve, and you will know it. "Prophets are fools," you say. "And God's messengers are crazy." Your terrible guilt has filled you with hatred.

You prophets and fortunetellers will all be disgraced, with no message from me."

You can't believe idols and fortunetellers, or depend on the hope you receive from witchcraft and interpreters of dreams. But you have tried all of these, and now you are like sheep without a shepherd.

No magic charms can work against them-- just look what God has done for his people.
