or when trouble and distress surround you like a whirlwind, I will laugh and make fun.

The poor and the needy will be treated with fairness and with justice. His word will be law everywhere in the land, and criminals will be put to death.

The plants may sprout and blossom that very same morning, but it will do you no good, because you will suffer endless agony.

At the LORD's command, flowers and grass disappear, and so do we.

A strong wind will scatter them in all directions. Then you will celebrate and praise me, your LORD, the holy God of Israel.

Who appointed this ruler from the east? Who puts nations and kings in his power? His sword and his arrows turn them to dust blown by the wind.

Erase the names of Jehoiachin's children from the royal records. He is a complete failure, and so none of them will ever be king. I, the LORD, have spoken.

They are evil! So in my anger I will strike them like a violent storm.

No matter how much you prosper more than the other tribes, I, the LORD, will wipe you out, just as a scorching desert wind dries up streams of water. I will take away your precious treasures.

And so, all of you will vanish like the mist or the dew of early morning, or husks of grain in the wind or smoke from a chimney.

Assyria, this is what else the LORD says to you: "Your name will be forgotten. I will destroy every idol in your temple, and I will send you to the grave, because you are worthless."

You expected much, but received only a little. And when you brought it home, I made that little disappear. Why have I done this? It's because you hurry off to build your own houses, while my temple is still in ruins.

That's why I came with a whirlwind and scattered them among foreign nations, leaving their lovely country empty of people and in ruins.

Like a cloud, the LORD God will appear over his people, and his arrows will flash like lightning. God will sound his trumpet and attack in a whirlwind from the south.
