You rescue the humble, but you look for ways to put down the proud.

Why doesn't God set a time for court? Why don't his people know where he can be found?

(A song by David for worship.) I am not conceited, LORD, and I don't waste my time on impossible schemes.

You, the LORD God, keep my lamp burning and turn darkness to light.

On that day the LORD will punish the powers in the heavens and the kings of the earth.

The earth wilts away; its mighty leaders melt to nothing.

God brings down rulers and turns them into nothing.

I will destroy the mountains and what grows on them; I will dry up rivers and ponds.

Its citizens have been put down, and its proud people have been brought to shame.

This is the year when the LORD God will show kindness to us and punish our enemies. The LORD has sent me to comfort those who mourn,

My people are like a hawk surrounded and attacked by other hawks. Tell the wild animals to come and eat their fill.

Jeremiah, I will use Babylonia to destroy the pride of the people of Judah and Jerusalem.

My people, soon you will suffer worse than ever before, but I will save you.

But the LORD All-Powerful will win this battle and take revenge on his enemies. His sword will eat them and drink their blood until it is full. They will be killed in the north near the Euphrates River, as a sacrifice to the LORD.

Babylon, you should be named, "The Proud One." But the time has come when I, the LORD All-Powerful, will punish you.

They don't warn the people about coming trouble or tell them how dangerous it is to sin against me.

That's why I say: "Praise and honor the King who rules from heaven! Everything he does is honest and fair, and he can shatter the power of those who are proud."

You look forward to the day when the LORD comes to judge. But you are in for trouble! It won't be a time of sunshine; all will be darkness.

But here is what the LORD says: "I am planning trouble for you. Your necks will be caught in a noose, and you will be disgraced in this time of disaster."

When that time comes, you won't rebel against me and be put to shame. I'll do away with those who are proud and arrogant. Never will any of them strut around on my holy mountain.

The day of judgment is certain to come. And it will be like a red-hot furnace with flames that burn up proud and sinful people, as though they were straw. Not a branch or a root will be left. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken!

I, the LORD, promise to send the prophet Elijah before that great and terrible day comes.

If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.

You must then hand that man over to Satan. His body will be destroyed, but his spirit will be saved when the Lord Jesus returns.

You surely know that the Lord's return will be as a thief coming at night.

In fact, God treats us with even greater kindness, just as the Scriptures say, "God opposes everyone who is proud, but he is kind to everyone who is humble."
