If a messenger comes from a distant nation, you must say: "The LORD built Zion. Even the poorest of his people will find safety there."

You will rebuild the city of Zion. Your glory will be seen,

Every generation of those who serve you will live in your presence.

Kings joined forces to attack the city,

(A psalm and a song by the people of Korah.) Zion was built by the LORD on the holy mountain,

God Most High will strengthen the city of Zion. Then everyone will say, "We were born here too."

The LORD is a mighty tower where his people can run for safety--

The poor and the needy will be treated with fairness and with justice. His word will be law everywhere in the land, and criminals will be put to death.

Sing, people of Zion! Celebrate the greatness of the holy LORD of Israel. God is here to help you.

You have been a place of safety for the poor and needy in times of trouble. Brutal enemies pounded us like a heavy rain or the heat of the sun at noon, but you were our shelter.

And so the LORD says, "I'm laying a firm foundation for the city of Zion. It's a valuable cornerstone proven to be trustworthy; no one who trusts it will ever be disappointed.

The poor and the needy will celebrate and shout because of the LORD, the holy God of Israel.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, will see to it that some who live in Jerusalem will survive.

About this same time, the king of Assyria learned that King Tirhakah of Ethiopia was on his way to attack him. Then the king of Assyria sent some messengers with this note for Hezekiah:

Merodach Baladan, the son of Baladan, was now king of Babylonia. And when he learned that Hezekiah was well, he sent messengers with letters and a gift for him.

It will provide shade from the heat of the sun and a place of shelter and protection from storms and rain.

I am also the one who says, "Cyrus will lead my people and obey my orders. Jerusalem and the temple will be rebuilt."

Jerusalem, you are sad and discouraged, tossed around in a storm. But I, the LORD, will rebuild your city with precious stones; for your foundation I will use blue sapphires.

Ask your idols to save you when you are in trouble. Be careful though-- it takes only a faint breath to blow them over. But if you come to me for protection, this land and my holy mountain will always belong to you.

and so the total length of the wall will be six miles. The new name of the city will be "The-LORD-Is-Here!"

But I, the LORD, won't destroy any of your people who are truly humble and turn to me for safety.

The sheep dealers who saw me knew right away that this was a message from the LORD.

So I became a shepherd of those sheep doomed to be slaughtered by the sheep dealers. And I gave names to the two sticks I used for tending the sheep: One of them was named "Mercy" and the other "Unity."

So I will call you Peter, which means "a rock." On this rock I will build my church, and death itself will not have any power over it.

Abraham did this, because he was waiting for the eternal city that God had planned and built.

You have now come to Mount Zion and to the heavenly Jerusalem. This is the city of the living God, where thousands and thousands of angels have come to celebrate.

My dear friends, pay attention. God has given a lot of faith to the poor people in this world. He has also promised them a share in his kingdom that he will give to everyone who loves him.
