The Spirit of the LORD has told me what to say.

"But, my people, Israel, you refused to listen, and you would have nothing to do with me!

"My people, Israel, if only you would listen and do as I say!

Don't brag about tomorrow! Each day brings its own surprises.

Work hard at whatever you do. You will soon go to the world of the dead, where no one works or thinks or reasons or knows anything.

Pay close attention! Come to me and live. I will promise you the eternal love and loyalty that I promised David.

Turn to the LORD! He can still be found. Call out to God! He is near.

While Peter was still speaking, the shadow of a bright cloud passed over them. From the cloud a voice said, "This is my own dear Son, and I am pleased with him. Listen to what he says!"

The Scriptures say, "If you hear his voice today, don't be stubborn like those who rebelled."

Much later God told David to make the promise again, just as I have already said, "If you hear his voice today, don't be stubborn!"

All of this is the Holy Spirit's way of saying that no one could enter the most holy place while the tent was still the place of worship.

The prophets did not think these things up on their own, but they were guided by the Spirit of God.

Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together.
