My friends, watch out! Don't let evil thoughts or doubts make any of you turn from the living God.

The smell of the burning offering pleased God, and he said: Never again will I punish the earth for the sinful things its people do. All of them have evil thoughts from the time they are young, but I will never destroy everything that breathes, as I did this time.

Those who are evil say to God All-Powerful, "Leave us alone! Don't bother us with your teachings.

They rejected God All-Powerful, feeling he was helpless,

I do what you want and never turn to do evil.

Sin and self-satisfaction bring destruction and death to stupid fools.

We have rebelled and refused to follow you. Our hearts were deceitful, and so we lied; we planned to abuse others and turn our backs on you.

have always been stubborn. You have refused to listen, and instead you have done whatever your sinful hearts have desired. You have not kept the agreement we made, so I will make you suffer every curse that goes with it.

And you have done even worse! You are stubborn, and instead of obeying me, you do whatever evil comes to your mind.

I, the LORD, have put a curse on those who turn from me and trust in human strength.

You people of Judah are so deceitful that you even fool yourselves, and you can't change.

But I know you won't listen. You might as well answer, "We don't care what you say. We have made plans to sin, and we are going to be stubborn and do what we want!"

You, my people, have sinned in two ways-- you have rejected me, the source of life-giving water, and you've tried to collect water in cracked and leaking pits dug in the ground.

The whole city of Jerusalem will be my throne. All nations will come here to worship me, and they will no longer follow their stubborn, evil hearts.

But your ancestors refused to listen. They were stubborn, and whenever I wanted them to go one way, they always went the other.

When they hear my message, maybe they will see that they need to turn back to me and stop worshiping those idols.

The LORD said, "Hosea, Israel has betrayed me like an unfaithful wife. Marry such a woman and have children by her."

Simon Peter spoke up, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."

Jesus answered: Don't let anyone fool you.

But be on your guard! That's why I am telling you these things now.

So watch out and be ready! You don't know when the time will come.

Be on your guard! You will be taken to courts and beaten with whips in their meeting places. And because of me, you will have to stand before rulers and kings to tell about your faith.

Jesus replied: Don't be fooled by those who will come and claim to be me. They will say, "I am Christ!" and "Now is the time!" But don't follow them.

If God cut away those natural branches, couldn't he do the same to you?

Even if you think you can stand up to temptation, be careful not to fall.

Don't let anyone fool you by using senseless arguments. These arguments may sound wise, but they are only human teachings. They come from the powers of this world and not from Christ.

Everyone is talking about how you welcomed us and how you turned away from idols to serve the true and living God.

It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God!

The people God accepts will live because of their faith. But he isn't pleased with anyone who turns back."

Make sure that no one misses out on God's wonderful kindness. Don't let anyone become bitter and cause trouble for the rest of you.

You have now come to Mount Zion and to the heavenly Jerusalem. This is the city of the living God, where thousands and thousands of angels have come to celebrate.

Make sure that you obey the one who speaks to you. The people did not escape, when they refused to obey the one who spoke to them at Mount Sinai. Do you think you can possibly escape, if you refuse to obey the one who speaks to you from heaven?

My friends, God has chosen you to be his holy people. So think about Jesus, the one we call our apostle and high priest!

"Then God got tired of them and said, 'You people never show good sense, and you don't understand what I want you to do.'

We see that those people did not enter the place of rest because they did not have faith.

But Christ was sinless, and he offered himself as an eternal and spiritual sacrifice to God. That's why his blood is much more powerful and makes our consciences clear. Now we can serve the living God and no longer do things that lead to death.
