At first, Lot just stood there. But the LORD wanted to save him. So the angels took Lot, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and led them out of the city.

Early the next morning the two angels tried to make Lot hurry and leave. They said, "Take your wife and your two daughters and get out of here as fast as you can! If you don't, every one of you will be killed when the LORD destroys the city."

If we had not wasted all this time, we could already have been there and back twice."

Just as parents are kind to their children, the LORD is kind to all who worship him,

He protects them from death and starvation.

Do you want to live and enjoy a long life?

But you, the Lord God, are kind and merciful. You don't easily get angry, and your love can always be trusted.

You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you.

Then he passed in front of Moses and called out, "I am the LORD God. I am merciful and very patient with my people. I show great love, and I can be trusted.

I keep my promises to my people forever, but I also punish anyone who sins. When people sin, I punish them and their children, and also their grandchildren and great-grandchildren."

It troubled the LORD to see them in trouble, and his angel saved them. The LORD was truly merciful, so he rescued his people. He took them in his arms and carried them all those years.

The LORD's kindness never fails! If he had not been merciful, we would have been destroyed.

that you love to show mercy and kindness. And you said that you are very patient, but that you will punish everyone guilty of doing wrong--not only them but their children and grandchildren as well.

The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, "God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner."

No one can come to me, unless the Father who sent me makes them want to come. But if they do come, I will raise them to life on the last day.

Everything depends on what God decides to do, and he can either have pity on people or make them stubborn.

Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! The Father is a merciful God, who always gives us comfort.

The LORD your God will have mercy--he won't destroy you or desert you. The LORD will remember his promise, and he will keep the agreement he made with your ancestors.

This special day of rest will remind you that I reached out my mighty arm and rescued you from slavery in Egypt.

Then you will answer: We were slaves of the king of Egypt, but the LORD used his great power and set us free.

but the LORD chose you because he loves you and because he had made a promise to your ancestors. Then with his mighty arm, he rescued you from the king of Egypt, who had made you his slaves.

He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things that we have done. God washed us by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning.

Lot lived right and was greatly troubled by the terrible way those wicked people were living. He was a good man, and day after day he suffered because of the evil things he saw and heard. So the Lord rescued him.

This shows that the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their sufferings and to punish evil people while they wait for the day of judgment.
