Ezekiel 1:1

Conservative English Version

I am Ezekiel--a priest and the son of Buzi. Five years after King Jehoiachin of Judah had been led away as a prisoner to Babylonia, I was living near the Chebar River among those who had been taken there with him. Then on the fifth day of the fourth month of the thirtieth year, the heavens suddenly opened. The LORD placed his hand upon me and showed me some visions.

Later the LORD spoke to Abram in a vision, "Abram, don't be afraid! I will protect you and reward you greatly."

That night, God spoke to him and said, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," Jacob answered.

Beside the rivers of Babylon we thought about Jerusalem, and we sat down and cried.

and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something that looked like a pavement made out of sapphire, and it was as bright as the sky.

I am Isaiah, the son of Amoz. And this is the message that I was given about Judah and Jerusalem when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were the kings of Judah:

In the year that King Uzziah died, I had a vision of the LORD. He was on his throne high above, and his robe filled the temple.

You feel secure, because you think I have sent prophets to speak for me in Babylonia.

I saw the dome that was above the four winged creatures, and on it was the sapphire throne.

Each wheel was exactly the same and had a second wheel that cut through the middle of it,

These were the same creatures I had seen near the Chebar River. They controlled when and where the wheels moved--the wheels went wherever the creatures went and stopped whenever they stopped. Even when the creatures flew in the air, the wheels stayed beside them.

I knew for sure that these were the same creatures I had seen beneath the LORD's glory near the Chebar River.

Then in my vision, the LORD's Spirit lifted me up and carried me back to the other exiles in Babylonia. The vision faded away,

When I was back with the others living at Abib Hill near the Chebar River, I sat among them for seven days, shocked at what had happened to me.

I immediately went to the valley, where I saw the brightness of the LORD's glory, just as I had seen near the Chebar River, and I bowed with my face to the ground.

This vision was like the one I had seen when God came to destroy Jerusalem and like the one I had seen near the Chebar River. I immediately bowed with my face to the ground,

It reached out what seemed to be a hand and grabbed my hair. Then in my vision the LORD's Spirit lifted me into the sky and carried me to Jerusalem. The Spirit took me to the north gate of the temple's inner courtyard, where there was an idol that disgusted the LORD and made him furious.

I spoke to the prophets-- often I spoke in visions. And so, I will send my prophets with messages of doom.

Later, I will give my Spirit to everyone. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will have dreams, and your young men will see visions.

Then after commanding them to listen carefully, he said: "I, the LORD, speak to prophets in visions and dreams.

On their way down from the mountain, Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of Man had been raised from death.

So Jesus was baptized. And as soon as he came out of the water, the sky opened, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down on him like a dove.

As soon as Jesus came out of the water, he saw the sky open and the Holy Spirit coming down to him like a dove.

While everyone else was being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. Then as he prayed, the sky opened up,

When Jesus began to preach, he was about thirty years old. Everyone thought he was the son of Joseph. But his family went back through Heli,

I tell you for certain that you will see heaven open and God's angels going up and coming down on the Son of Man."

He saw heaven open, and something came down like a huge sheet held up by its four corners.

One afternoon at about three o'clock, Cornelius had a vision. He saw an angel from God coming to him and calling him by name.

Then Stephen said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right side of God!"

I have to brag. There is nothing to be gained by it, but I must brag about the visions and other things that the Lord has shown me.

I looked and saw that heaven was open, and a white horse was there. Its rider was called Faithful and True, and he is always fair when he judges or goes to war.

After this, I looked and saw a door that opened into heaven. Then the voice that had spoken to me at first and that sounded like a trumpet said, "Come up here! I will show you what must happen next."
