When the crowd saw what had happened, they all bowed down and shouted, "The LORD is God! The LORD is God!"

Even though the LORD had commanded the Israelites not to worship idols, they did it anyway.

All of this happened because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had rescued them from Egypt, where they had been slaves. They worshiped foreign gods,

Ahaz and the people of Judah sinned and turned away from the LORD, the God their ancestors had worshiped. So the LORD punished them by letting their enemies defeat them. The king of Syria attacked Judah and took many of its people to Damascus as prisoners. King Pekah of Israel later defeated Judah and killed one hundred twenty thousand of its bravest soldiers in one day.

My people, I am God! Israel, I am your God. Listen to my charges against you.

I am the LORD your God. I rescued you from Egypt. Just ask, and I will give you whatever you need.

"But, my people, Israel, you refused to listen, and you would have nothing to do with me!

When you were in trouble, I rescued you, and from the thunderclouds, I answered your prayers. Later I tested you at Meribah Spring.

Your ancestors refused to ask for my help, though I had rescued them from Egypt and led them through a treacherous, barren desert, where no one lives or dares to travel.

The LORD said: Israel, I promise that someday all your tribes will again be my people, and I will be your God.

Here is the new agreement that I, the LORD, will make with the people of Israel: "I will write my laws on their hearts and minds. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

I am the LORD God of Israel, and I made an agreement with your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, where they had been slaves.

I reminded them that I was the LORD their God and that they should obey my laws and teachings.

Tell them that long ago I, the LORD God, chose Israel to be my own. I appeared to their ancestors in Egypt and made a solemn promise that I would be their God and the God of their descendants.

I told them to get rid of their disgusting idols and not to sin by worshiping the gods of Egypt. I reminded them that I was the LORD their God,

I spoke to the prophets-- often I spoke in visions. And so, I will send my prophets with messages of doom.

I, the LORD, have been your God since the time you were in Egypt. I am the only God you know, the only one who can save.

I brought you out of Egypt so that I could be your God. Now you must become holy, because I am holy!

so future generations will know that I made their ancestors live in shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Remember--I am the LORD your God! I rescued you from Egypt and gave you the land of Canaan, so that I would be your God.

I brought them out of Egypt to be my servants, not to be sold as slaves.

People of Israel, I am the LORD your God, and I brought you out of Egypt to be my own servants.

I am the LORD your God! So don't make or worship any sort of idols or images.

I am the LORD your God, and I rescued you from Egypt, so that you would never again be slaves. I have set you free; now walk with your heads held high.

I had rescued you from Egypt, and for forty years I had led you through the desert. Then I gave you the land of the Amorites.

no matter if that person is a Jew or a Gentile. There is only one Lord, and he is generous to everyone who asks for his help.

Does God belong only to the Jews? Isn't he also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, he is!

I am commanding you to obey the LORD as a reminder that you were slaves in Egypt before he set you free.

If you have to go to war, you may find yourselves facing an enemy army that is bigger than yours and that has horses and chariots. But don't be afraid! The LORD your God rescued you from Egypt, and he will help you fight.

This special day of rest will remind you that I reached out my mighty arm and rescued you from slavery in Egypt.

I am the LORD your God, the one who brought you out of Egypt where you were slaves.

but the LORD chose you because he loves you and because he had made a promise to your ancestors. Then with his mighty arm, he rescued you from the king of Egypt, who had made you his slaves.

The LORD's angel went from Gilgal to Bochim and gave the Israelites this message from the LORD: I promised your ancestors that I would give this land to their families, and I brought your people here from Egypt. We made an agreement that I promised never to break,

I am your God, and I told you not to worship Amorite gods, even though you are living in the land of the Amorites. But you refused to listen.
