The people started complaining to Moses, "Give us some water!" Moses replied, "Why are you complaining to me and trying to put the LORD to the test?"

But they soon forgot what you had done and rejected your advice.

They became greedy for food and tested you there in the desert.

They stubbornly tested God and demanded from him what they wanted to eat.

They kept testing him and caused terrible pain for the Holy One of Israel.

But the people tested God Most High, and they refused to obey his laws.

Don't be stubborn and rebel as your ancestors did at Meribah and Massah out in the desert.

See how happy those arrogant people are. Everyone who does wrong is successful, and when they put God to the test, they always get away with it."

I swear that not one of these Israelites will enter the land I promised to give their ancestors. These people have seen my power in Egypt and in the desert, but they will never see Canaan. They have disobeyed and tested me too many times.

And don't try to test Christ, as some of them did and were later bitten by poisonous snakes.

so don't try to make him prove that he can help you, as you did at Massah.

You also made the LORD angry when you were staying at Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth-Hattaavah.

For forty years your ancestors tested God and saw the things he did.

Samuel was upset to hear the leaders say they wanted a king, so he prayed about it.
