Israel, you are the chosen people of the LORD your God. There are many nations on this earth, but he chose only Israel to be his very own.

And now I must rule your chosen people, even though there are too many of them to count.

Some Israelite men have married foreign women and have let their sons do the same thing. Our own officials and leaders were the first to commit this disgusting sin, and now God's holy people are mixed with foreigners.

He made Judah his holy place and ruled over Israel.

He chose the family of Jacob and the people of Israel for his very own.

"Call my followers together! They offered me a sacrifice, and we made an agreement."

I will accept you as my people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I was the one who rescued you from the Egyptians.

Israel, you are my servant. I chose you, the family of my friend Abraham.

From far across the earth I brought you here and said, "You are my chosen servant. I haven't forgotten you."

If only a tenth of the people are left, even they will be destroyed. But just as stumps remain after trees have been cut down, some of my chosen ones will be left.

Then you will be called, 'The LORD's Own People, The Ones He Rescued!' Your city will be known as a good place to live and a city full of people."

You belonged to me alone, like the first part of the harvest, and I severely punished those who mistreated you.

Tell them that long ago I, the LORD God, chose Israel to be my own. I appeared to their ancestors in Egypt and made a solemn promise that I would be their God and the God of their descendants.

I am the LORD your God, and I have promised you their land that is rich with milk and honey. I have chosen you to be different from other people.

I am the LORD, the holy God. You have been chosen to be my people, and so you must be holy too.

Of all nations on earth, you are the only one I have chosen. That's why I will punish you because of your sins.

Then the LORD All-Powerful said: You people are precious to me, and when I come to bring justice, I will protect you, just as parents protect an obedient child.

The God of Israel chose our ancestors, and he let our people prosper while they were living in Egypt. Then with his mighty power he led them out,

They are the descendants of Israel, and they are also God's chosen people. God showed them his glory. He made agreements with them and gave them his Law. The temple is theirs and so are the promises that God made to them.

Out of all the nations on this earth, the LORD your God chose you to be his own. You belong to the LORD, so don't behave like those who worship other gods.

You belong to the LORD your God, so if you happen to find a dead animal, don't eat its meat. You may give it to foreigners who live in your town or sell it to foreigners who are visiting your town. Don't boil a young goat in its mother's milk.

Since you have agreed to obey the LORD, he has agreed that you will be his people and that you will belong to him, just as he promised.

The LORD created all nations, but he will make you more famous than any of them, and you will receive more praise and honor. You will belong only to the LORD your God, just as he promised.

If you follow and obey the LORD, he will make you his own special people, just as he promised.

The LORD loves the tribes of Israel, and he protects his people. They listen to his words and worship at his feet. *

But you are the LORD's people, because he led you through fiery trials and rescued you from Egypt.

The LORD loved your ancestors and decided that you would be his people. So the LORD used his great power to bring you out of Egypt.

He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.

But you are God's chosen and special people. You are a group of royal priests and a holy nation. God has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things that he has done. The Scriptures say,

And during Noah's time, God did not have pity on the ungodly people of the world. He destroyed them with a flood, though he did save eight people, including Noah, who preached the truth.

This shows that the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their sufferings and to punish evil people while they wait for the day of judgment.

But the LORD has chosen you to be his own people. He will always take care of you so that everyone will know how great he is.
