You will work hard on your farms, but everything you harvest will be eaten by foreigners, who will mistreat you and abuse you for the rest of your life.

Their hard work will result in nothing gained,

Your country lies in ruins; your towns are in ashes. Foreigners and strangers take and destroy your land while you watch.

But his people were trapped and imprisoned in holes with no one to rescue them. All they owned had been taken, and no one was willing to give it back.

The LORD has given his word and made this promise: "Never again will I give to your enemies the grain and grapes for which you struggled.

People of Israel, I have made my decision. An army from a distant country will attack you. I've chosen an ancient nation, and you won't understand their language.

This nation will eat your crops and livestock; they will leave no fruit on your vines or trees. And although you feel safe behind thick walls, your towns will be destroyed and your children killed.

Our enemies have reached the town of Dan in the north, and the snorting of their horses makes us tremble with fear. The enemy will destroy Jerusalem and our entire nation. No one will survive."

Now I am going to let you be conquered by tribes from the eastern desert. They will set up their camps in your land and eat your fruit and drink your milk.

Israel was brutally crushed. They got what they deserved for worshiping useless idols.

If you scatter wind instead of wheat, you will harvest a whirlwind and have no wheat. Even if you harvest grain, enemies will steal it all.

I will punish you terribly, and you will be ruined. You will be struck with incurable diseases and with fever that leads to blindness and depression. Your enemies will eat the crops you plant,

What you see will be so horrible that you will go insane,

They will take your cattle, sheep, goats, grain, wine, and olive oil, then leave you to starve.

Every time the Israelites would plant crops, the Midianites invaded Israel together with the Amalekites and other eastern nations.
