You stubborn and hardheaded people! You are always fighting against the Holy Spirit, just as your ancestors did.

But the Israelites would not listen; they were as stubborn as their ancestors who had refused to worship the LORD their God.

Don't be stubborn like your ancestors. Decide now to obey the LORD our God! Come to Jerusalem and worship him in the temple that will belong to him forever. Then he will stop being angry,

Our stubborn ancestors refused to obey-- they forgot about the miracles you had worked for them, and they were determined to return to Egypt and become slaves again.

For years, you were patient, and your Spirit warned them with messages spoken by your prophets. Still they refused to listen, and you handed them over to their enemies.

Stop bragging! Quit telling me how great you are."

They would be different from their ancestors, who were stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful to God.

Moses, I have seen how stubborn these people are,

He prayed, "LORD, if you really are pleased with me, I pray that you will go with us. It is true that these people are sinful and rebellious, but forgive our sin and let us be your people."

I knew you were stubborn and hardheaded.

Then the LORD's people turned against him and made his Holy Spirit sad. So he became their enemy and attacked them.

With all your hearts, keep the agreement I made with you. But if you are stubborn and keep on sinning, my anger will burn like a fire that cannot be put out. *

I have told the people that you, LORD, will punish them, but they just laugh and refuse to listen.

They are stubborn and hardheaded. But I, the LORD God, have chosen you to tell them what I say.

My temple has been disgraced, because you have let godless, stubborn foreigners come here when sacrifices are being offered to me. You have sinned and have broken our solemn agreement.

And so I, the LORD God, say that no godless foreigner who disobeys me will be allowed in my temple. This includes any foreigner living in Israel.

But they were no match for Stephen, who spoke with the great wisdom that the Spirit gave him.

But the man who had started the fight pushed Moses aside and asked, "Who made you our ruler and judge?

This was the same Moses that the people rejected by saying, "Who made you our leader and judge?" God's angel had spoken to Moses from the bush. And God had even sent the angel to help Moses rescue the people and be their leader.

But our ancestors refused to obey Moses. They rejected him and wanted to go back to Egypt.

These men were our ancestors. Joseph was also one of our famous ancestors. His brothers were jealous of him and sold him as a slave to be taken to Egypt. But God was with him

Being circumcised is worthwhile, if you obey the Law. But if you don't obey the Law, you are no better off than people who are not circumcised.

Don't make God's Spirit sad. The Spirit makes you sure that someday you will be free from your sins.

Remember your agreement with the LORD and stop being so stubborn.

You and your descendants are stubborn, but the LORD will make you willing to obey him and love him with all your heart and soul, and you will enjoy a long life.

I know how stubborn and rebellious you and the rest of the Israelites are. You have rebelled against the LORD while I have been alive, and it will only get worse after I am gone.

I've been watching the Israelites, and I've seen how stubborn and rebellious they are.

But we are the ones who are truly circumcised, because we worship by the power of God's Spirit and take pride in Christ Jesus. We don't brag about what we have done,

Christ has also taken away your selfish desires, just as circumcision removes flesh from the body.
