You and this woman will hate each other; your descendants and hers will always be enemies. One of hers will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel."

I chose you to bring justice, and I am here at your side. I selected and sent you to bring light and my promise of hope to the nations.

Now the LORD says to me, "It isn't enough for you to be merely my servant. You must do more than lead back survivors from the tribes of Israel. I have placed you here as a light for other nations; you must take my saving power to everyone on earth."

I, the LORD, will make the descendants of David and the people of Jerusalem feel deep sorrow and pray when they see the one they pierced with a spear. They will mourn and weep for him, as parents weep over the death of their only child or their first-born.

The LORD All-Powerful said: My sword, wake up! Attack my shepherd and friend. Strike down the shepherd! Scatter the little sheep, and I will destroy them.

The Son of Man will die, as the Scriptures say. But it's going to be terrible for the one who betrays me! That man would be better off if he had never been born."

Then after Jesus had risen to life, they came out of their graves and went into the holy city, where they were seen by many people.

Your mighty power is a light for all nations, and it will bring honor to your people Israel."

Didn't you know that the Messiah would have to suffer before he was given his glory?"

He told them: The Scriptures say that the Messiah must suffer, then three days later he will rise from death.

No one takes my life from me. I give it up willingly! I have the power to give it up and the power to receive it back again, just as my Father commanded me to do.

Jesus then said, "I am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live, even if they die.

God raised Jesus from death and will never let his body decay. It is just as God said, "I will make to you the same holy promise that I made to David."

I want you to open their eyes, so that they will turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then their sins will be forgiven, and by faith in me they will become part of God's holy people."

Why should any of you doubt that God raises the dead to life?

But God had his prophets tell that his Messiah would suffer, and now he has kept that promise.

Samuel and all the other prophets who came later also spoke about what is now happening.

I told you the most important part of the message exactly as it was told to me. That part is: Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say.

The god who rules this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers. They cannot see the light, which is the good news about our glorious Christ, who shows what God is like.

He is the head of his body, which is the church. He is the very beginning, the first to be raised from death, so that he would be above all others.

Everything belongs to God, and all things were created by his power. So God did the right thing when he made Jesus perfect by suffering, as Jesus led many of God's children to be saved and to share in his glory.

May kindness and peace be yours from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness. Jesus was the first to conquer death, and he is the ruler of all earthly kings. Christ loves us, and by his blood he set us free from our sins.
