Look after yourselves and everyone the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be like shepherds to God's church. It is the flock that he bought with the blood of his own Son.

Remember the people you rescued long ago, the tribe you chose to be your very own. Think of Mount Zion, your home;

Many are helped by useful instruction, but fools are killed by their own stupidity.

The LORD cares for his nation, just as shepherds care for their flocks. He carries the lambs in his arms, while gently leading the mother sheep.

But his people remembered what had happened during the time of Moses. Didn't the LORD bring them and their leaders safely through the sea? Didn't he give them his Holy Spirit?

If you are too proud to listen, I will weep alone. Tears will stream from my eyes when the LORD's people are taken away as prisoners.

Jerusalem, you were so proud of ruling the people of Judah. But where are they now? Look north, and you will see your enemies approaching.

Then I'll appoint wise rulers who will obey me, and they will care for you like shepherds.

You drink their milk and use their wool to make your clothes. Then you butcher the best ones for food. But you don't take care of the flock!

Like a shepherd taking care of his sheep, this ruler will lead and care for his people by the power and glorious name of the LORD his God. His people will live securely, and the whole earth will know his true greatness,

Lead your people, LORD! Come and be our shepherd. Grasslands surround us, but we live in a forest. So lead us to Bashan and Gilead, and let us find pasture as we did long ago.

The LORD my God said to me: Tend those sheep doomed for slaughter!

So I will call you Peter, which means "a rock." On this rock I will build my church, and death itself will not have any power over it.

Be on your guard! You will be taken to courts and beaten with whips in their meeting places. And because of me, you will have to stand before rulers and kings to tell about your faith.

Don't spend all of your time thinking about eating or drinking or worrying about life. If you do, the final day will suddenly catch you

While they were worshiping the Lord and going without eating, the Holy Spirit told them, "Appoint Barnabas and Saul to do the work for which I have chosen them."

Paul and Barnabas chose some leaders for each of the churches. Then they went without eating and prayed that the Lord would take good care of these leaders.

From Miletus, Paul sent a message for the church leaders at Ephesus to come and meet with him.

I know that after I am gone, others will come like fierce wolves to attack you.

Be sure to give each other a warm greeting. All of Christ's churches greet you.

To God's church in Corinth. Christ Jesus chose you to be his very own people, and you worship in his name, as we and all others do who call him Lord.

Don't cause problems for Jews or Greeks or anyone else who belongs to God's church.

Don't you have homes where you can eat and drink? Do you hate God's church? Do you want to embarrass people who don't have anything? What can I say to you? I certainly cannot praise you.

I am the least important of all the apostles. In fact, I caused so much trouble for God's church that I don't even deserve to be called an apostle.

God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.

You know how I used to live as a Jew. I was cruel to God's church and even tried to destroy it.

The Spirit also makes us sure that we will be given what God has stored up for his people. Then we will be set free, and God will be honored and praised.

Christ sacrificed his life's blood to set us free, which means that our sins are now forgiven. Christ did this because God was so kind to us. God has great wisdom and understanding,

Christ chose some of us to be apostles, prophets, missionaries, pastors, and teachers,

From Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus. To all of God's people who belong to Christ Jesus at Philippi and to all of your church officials and officers.

who forgives our sins and sets us free.

Remind Archippus to do the work that the Lord has given him to do.

It is true that anyone who desires to be a church official wants to be something worthwhile.

That's why officials must have a good reputation and be faithful in marriage. They must be self-controlled, sensible, well-behaved, friendly to strangers, and able to teach.

If they don't know how to control their own families, how can they look after God's people?

Use the gift you were given when the prophets spoke and the group of church leaders blessed you by placing their hands on you.

Be careful about the way you live and about what you teach. Keep on doing this, and you will save not only yourself, but the people who hear you.

Church leaders who do their job well deserve to be paid twice as much, especially if they work hard at preaching and teaching.

Church officials are in charge of God's work, and so they must also have a good reputation. They must not be bossy, quick-tempered, heavy drinkers, bullies, or dishonest in business.

He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.

Make sure that no one misses out on God's wonderful kindness. Don't let anyone become bitter and cause trouble for the rest of you.

Obey your leaders and do what they say. They are watching over you, and they must answer to God. So don't make them sad as they do their work. Make them happy. Otherwise, they won't be able to help you at all.

You had wandered away like sheep. Now you have returned to the one who is your shepherd and protector.

But you are God's chosen and special people. You are a group of royal priests and a holy nation. God has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things that he has done. The Scriptures say,

But if we live in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away.

Then they sang a new song, "You are worthy to receive the scroll and open its seals, because you were killed. And with your own blood you bought for God people from every tribe, language, nation, and race.
