The person in charge of the Jewish meeting place was also there. His name was Jairus, and when he saw Jesus, he went over to him. He knelt at Jesus' feet

Until the time of John the Baptist, people had to obey the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets. But since God's kingdom has been preached, everyone is trying hard to get in.

He said: My friends, long ago by the power of the Holy Spirit, David said something about Judas, and what he said has now happened. Judas was one of us and had worked with us, but he brought the mob to arrest Jesus.

The people of Jerusalem and their leaders didn't realize who Jesus was. And they didn't understand the words of the prophets that they read each Sabbath. So they condemned Jesus just as the prophets had said.

We must remember that the Law of Moses has been preached in city after city for many years, and every Sabbath it is read when we Jews meet.

They had talked it over for a long time, when Peter got up and said: My friends, you know that God decided long ago to let me be the one from your group to preach the good news to the Gentiles. God did this so that they would hear and obey him.

The crowd grabbed Sosthenes, the Jewish leader, and beat him up in front of the court. But none of this mattered to Gallio.

Crispus was the leader of the meeting place. He and everyone in his family put their faith in the Lord. Many others in Corinth also heard the message, and all the people who had faith in the Lord were baptized.

My friends, it is right for me to speak to you about our ancestor David. He died and was buried, and his tomb is still here.

When the people heard this, they were very upset. They asked Peter and the other apostles, "Friends, what shall we do?"

The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak.

As he traveled from place to place, he encouraged the followers with many messages. Finally, he went to Greece

"My friends and leaders of our nation, listen as I explain what happened!"

Joseph was one of the followers who had sold a piece of property and brought the money to the apostles. He was a Levite from Cyprus, and the apostles called him Barnabas, which means "one who encourages others."

Stephen answered: Friends, listen to me. Our glorious God appeared to our ancestor Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he had moved to Haran.

If we can encourage others, we should encourage them. If we can give, we should be generous. If we are leaders, we should do our best. If we are good to others, we should do it cheerfully.

But when you prophesy, you will be understood, and others will be helped. They will be encouraged and made to feel better.

The people were stubborn, and something still keeps them from seeing the truth when the Law is read. Only Christ can take away the covering that keeps them from seeing.

We didn't have any hidden motives when we won you over, and we didn't try to fool or trick anyone.

My friends, I have written only a short letter to encourage you, and I beg you to pay close attention to what I have said.
