The angel said, "Go back to Sarai and be her slave.

The servant prayed: You, LORD, are the God my master Abraham worships. Please keep your promise to him and let me find a wife for Isaac today.

One day, Abraham called in his most trusted servant and said to him, "Solemnly promise me

"I thank you, LORD God of my master Abraham! You have led me to his relatives and kept your promise to him."

His servants went over to him and said, "Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something difficult, you would have done it. So why don't you do what he said? Go wash and be cured."

Then the Levites Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah said: "Stand and shout praises to your LORD, the eternal God! Praise his wonderful name, though he is greater than words can express."

I was angry with my people. So I let you take their land and bring disgrace on them. You showed them no mercy, but were especially cruel to those who were old.

and now another nation has taken you prisoner for no reason at all. Your leaders groan with pain, and day after day my own name is cursed.

I'll tell you what it really means to worship the LORD. Remove the chains of prisoners who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused!

Wherever they went, my name was disgraced, because foreigners insulted my people by saying I had forced them out of their own land.

and to show foreign nations that I am holy. Then they will know that I am the LORD God. I have spoken.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, have something to say to you priests. Children respect their fathers, and servants respect their masters. I am your father and your master, so why don't you respect me? You priests have insulted me, and now you ask, "How did we insult you?"

This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.

What did you really go out to see? Was he a prophet? He certainly was. I tell you that he was more than a prophet.

Now why are you trying to make God angry by placing a heavy burden on these followers? This burden was too heavy for us or our ancestors.

It is just as the Scriptures tell us, "You have made foreigners say insulting things about God."

Don't cause problems for Jews or Greeks or anyone else who belongs to God's church.

Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the Law again.

he will send enemies to attack you and make you their slaves. Then you will live in poverty with nothing to eat, drink, or wear, and your owners will work you to death.

I would prefer that young widows get married, have children, and look after their families. Then the enemy won't have any reason to say insulting things about us.

Each of the younger women must be sensible and kind, as well as a good homemaker, who puts her own husband first. Then no one can say insulting things about God's message.

Always let others see you behaving properly, even though they may still accuse you of doing wrong. Then on the day of judgment, they will honor God by telling the good things they saw you do.

Give a kind and respectful answer and keep your conscience clear. This way you will make people ashamed for saying bad things about your good conduct as a follower of Christ.
