But they were told that they were serving you and not themselves. They preached to you by the power of the Holy Spirit, who was sent from heaven. And their message was only for you, even though angels would like to know more about it.

Listen as I correct you and tell you what I think.

When the Spirit is given to us from heaven, deserts will become orchards thick as fertile forests.

Has anyone believed us or seen the mighty power of the LORD in action?

In the third year of Cyrus the king of Persia, a message came to Daniel from God, and it was explained in a vision. The message was about a horrible war, and it was true.

So, Daniel, be faithful until the end! You will rest, and at the end of time, you will rise from death to receive your reward.

Daniel, go about your business, because the meaning of this message will remain secret until the end of time.

In a vision one night, Daniel was shown the dream and its meaning. Then he praised the God who rules from heaven:

"You explain deep mysteries, because even the dark is light to you.

The king said, "Now I know that your God is above all other gods and kings, because he gave you the power to explain this mystery."

Then one of the holy angels asked another, "When will the daily sacrifices be offered again? What about this horrible rebellion? When will the temple and heaven's army no longer be trampled in the dust?"

God has decided that for seventy weeks, your people and your holy city must suffer as the price of their sins. Then evil will disappear, and justice will rule forever; the visions and words of the prophets will come true, and a most holy place will be dedicated.

Later, I will give my Spirit to everyone. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will have dreams, and your young men will see visions.

Whatever the LORD God plans to do, he tells his servants, the prophets.

I, the LORD, will make the descendants of David and the people of Jerusalem feel deep sorrow and pray when they see the one they pierced with a spear. They will mourn and weep for him, as parents weep over the death of their only child or their first-born.

At that moment Jesus said: My Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I am grateful that you hid all this from wise and educated people and showed it to ordinary people.

My Father has given me everything, and he is the only one who knows the Son. The only one who truly knows the Father is the Son. But the Son wants to tell others about the Father, so that they can know him too.

Jesus told him: Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! You didn't discover this on your own. It was shown to you by my Father in heaven.

Then he told them: Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world.

Jesus said, "In the same way God's angels are happy when even one person turns to him."

and told him that he would not die until he had seen Christ the Lord.

The apostles left and went from village to village, telling the good news and healing people everywhere.

I will send you the Spirit who comes from the Father and shows what is true. The Spirit will help you and will tell you about me.

While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit took control of everyone who was listening.

After Paul had seen the vision, we began looking for a way to go to Macedonia. We were sure that God had called us to preach the good news there.

Jesus was taken up to sit at the right side of God, and he was given the Holy Spirit, just as the Father had promised. Jesus is also the one who has given the Spirit to us, and that is what you are now seeing and hearing.

After they had prayed, the meeting place shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and bravely spoke God's message.

Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and told the nation's leaders and the elders:

After Peter and John had preached about the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem. On their way they told the good news in many villages of Samaria.

The good news tells how God accepts everyone who has faith, but only those who have faith. It is just as the Scriptures say, "The people God accepts because of their faith will live."

And how can anyone tell them without being sent by the Lord? The Scriptures say it is a beautiful sight to see even the feet of someone coming to preach the good news.

Indeed, I will tell how Christ worked miracles and wonders by the power of the Holy Spirit. I have preached the good news about him all the way from Jerusalem to Illyricum.

God's Spirit has shown you everything. His Spirit finds out everything, even what is deep in the mind of God.

and put his Spirit in our hearts to show that we belong only to him.

But we have kept ourselves pure and have been understanding, patient, and kind. The Holy Spirit has been with us, and our love has been real.

It wasn't given or taught to me by some mere human. My message came directly from Jesus Christ when he appeared to me.

to show me his Son, so that I would announce his message to the Gentiles. I didn't talk this over with anyone.

Then God would use the church to show the powers and authorities in the spiritual world that he has many different kinds of wisdom.

My dear friends, you surely haven't forgotten our hard work and hardships. You remember how night and day we struggled to make a living, so that we could tell you God's message without being a burden to anyone.

Here is the great mystery of our religion: Christ came as a human. The Spirit proved that he pleased God, and he was seen by angels. Christ was preached to the nations. People in this world put their faith in him, and he was taken up to glory.

Every one of those people died. But they still had faith, even though they had not received what they had been promised. They were glad just to see these things from far away, and they agreed that they were only strangers and foreigners on this earth.

God himself showed that his message was true by working all kinds of powerful miracles and wonders. He also gave his Holy Spirit to anyone he chose to.

We have heard the message, just as they did. But they failed to believe what they heard, and the message did not do them any good.

But what the Lord has said will stand forever." Our good news to you is what the Lord has said.

The good news has even been preached to the dead, so that after they have been judged for what they have done in this life, their spirits will live with God.

As I looked, I heard the voices of a lot of angels around the throne and the voices of the living creatures and of the elders. There were millions and millions of them,
