His brothers asked, "Do you really think you are going to be king and rule over us?" Now they hated Joseph more than ever because of what he had said about his dream.

He answered, "LORD God All-Powerful, I've always done my best to obey you. But your people have broken their solemn promise to you. They have torn down your altars and killed all your prophets, except me. And now they are even trying to kill me!"

Ahab said, "So, my enemy, you found me at last." Elijah answered: Yes, I did! Ahab, you have managed to do everything the LORD hates.

Meanwhile, the messenger who went to get Micaiah whispered, "Micaiah, all the prophets have good news for Ahab. Now go and say the same thing."

Ahab turned to Jehoshaphat and said, "I told you he would bring bad news!"

Tell them to put him in prison and to give him nothing but bread and water until I come back safely."

But Jehoshaphat said, "Just to make sure, is there another of the LORD's prophets we can ask?"

Then Ahab sent someone to bring Micaiah as soon as possible.

Joram asked, "Jehu, is this a peaceful visit?" "How can there be peace?" Jehu asked. "Your mother Jezebel has caused everyone to worship idols and practice witchcraft."

But the people only laughed and insulted these prophets. They ignored what the LORD God was trying to tell them, until he finally became so angry that nothing could stop him from punishing Judah and Jerusalem.

Wicked people are killed by their own evil deeds, and if you hate God's people you will be punished.

Those who sneer at others don't like to be corrected, and they won't ask help from someone with sense.

A murderer hates everyone who is honest and lives right.

Any bragger you correct will only hate you. But if you correct someone who has common sense, you will be loved.

Tell those who disobey, "You're in big trouble-- what you did to others will come back to you."

and have said to his messengers and prophets: Don't tell us what God has shown you and don't preach the truth. Just say what we want to hear, even if it's false.

Israel, I am the holy LORD God, the one who rescues you. You are slaves of rulers and of a nation who despises you. Now this is what I promise: Kings and rulers will honor you by kneeling at your feet. You can trust me! I am your LORD, the holy God of Israel, and you are my chosen ones.

Some of the people said, "Let's get rid of Jeremiah! We will always have priests to teach us God's laws, as well as wise people to give us advice, and prophets to speak the LORD's messages. So, instead of listening to Jeremiah any longer, let's accuse him of a crime."

I heard the crowds whisper, "Everyone is afraid. Now's our chance to accuse Jeremiah!" All of my so-called friends are just waiting for me to make a mistake. They say, "Maybe Jeremiah can be tricked. Then we can overpower him and get even at last."

But every time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king would tell him to cut them off with his penknife and throw them in the fire. Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah begged the king not to burn the scroll, but he ignored them, and soon there was nothing left of it. The king and his servants listened to what was written on the scroll, but they were not afraid, and they did not tear their clothes in sorrow.

So the four of them went to the king and said, "You should put Jeremiah to death, because he is making the soldiers and everyone else lose hope. He isn't trying to help our people; he's trying to harm them."

You people hate judges and honest witnesses;

The only prophet you want is a liar who will say, "Drink and get drunk!"

Descendants of Jacob, is it right for you to claim that the LORD did what he did because he was angry? Doesn't he always bless those who do right?

In less than a month, I became impatient with three shepherds who didn't like me, and I got rid of them.

Everyone will hate you because of me. But if you remain faithful until the end, you will be saved.

I have told them your message. But the people of this world hate them, because they don't belong to this world, just as I don't.

The people of this world cannot hate you. They hate me, because I tell them that they do evil things.

Am I now your enemy, just because I told you the truth?
