"None of you know or understand a thing. You live in darkness, while the foundations of the earth tremble.

But you are opposed to dishonest lawmakers

who turned from doing good to live in the darkness.

My friends, what good is it to say you have faith, when you don't do anything to show that you really do have faith? Can that kind of faith save you?

you shouldn't just say, "I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat." What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help?

Suppose someone disagrees and says, "It is possible to have faith without doing kind deeds." I would answer, "Prove that you have faith without doing kind deeds, and I will prove that I have faith by doing them."

If we say that we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and his message isn't in our hearts.

We are telling you what we have seen and heard, so that you may share in this life with us. And we share in it with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

If we say that we have not sinned, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth isn't in our hearts.

But if we claim to know him and don't obey him, we are lying and the truth isn't in our hearts.

But if we say we love God and don't love each other, we are liars. We cannot see God. So how can we love God, if we don't love the people we can see?
