Conservative English Version

David and his army marched to Baal-Perazim, where they attacked and defeated the Philistines. He said, "I defeated my enemies because God broke through them like a mighty flood." So he named the place "The Lord Broke Through."

David attacked the Philistines and defeated them. Then he said, "I watched the LORD break through my enemies like a mighty flood." So he named the place "The Lord Broke Through. "

David asked God, "Should I attack the Philistines? Will you help me win?" The LORD told David, "Yes, attack them! I will give you victory."

Then David ordered his troops to burn the idols that the Philistines had left behind.

(By David.) I praise you, LORD! You are my mighty rock, and you teach me how to fight my battles.

By your power, kings win wars, and your servant David is saved from deadly swords.

Their strength and weapons were not what won the land and gave them victory! You loved them and fought with your powerful arm and your shining glory.

The water came and covered the chariots, the cavalry, and the whole Egyptian army that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them was left alive.

The LORD will fiercely attack as he did at Mount Perazim and in Gibeon Valley. But this time the LORD will do something surprising, not what you expect.

The rain poured down, the rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally, it fell with a crash.
