So the Gadites and Reubenites came to Moses, the priest Eleazar, and the leaders of the community and said,
“When a leader , sins and unintentionally violates any of the commands of the Lord his God by doing what is prohibited, and incurs guilt,
The Reubenites and Gadites had a very large number of livestock. When they surveyed the lands of Jazer and Gilead, they saw that the region was a good one for livestock.
“The territory of Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
Why did you sit among the sheep pens listening to the playing of pipes for the flocks? There was great searching of heart among the clans of Reuben.
Therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.”
The Israelites gave these cities with their pasturelands around them to the Levites by lot, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.
