But God was incensed that Balaam was going, and the angel of the Lord   took his stand on the path to oppose him. Balaam was riding his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

The angel of the Lord asked him, “Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? Look, I came out to oppose you, because I consider what you are doing to be evil.

On the trip, at an overnight campsite, it happened that the Lord confronted him and intended to put him to death.

He has strung his bow like an enemy; his right hand is positioned like an adversary. He has killed everyone who was the delight to the eye, pouring out his wrath like fire on the tent of Daughter Zion.

Then the Lord said to him: Name him Jezreel,  , for in a little while I will bring the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu and put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

Jehu commanded, “Consecrate a solemn assembly  for Baal.” So they called one.

Then the angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but you are to say only what I tell you.” So Balaam went with Balak’s officials.

“I am going to send an angel  before you to protect you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.

When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing on the path with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the path and went into the field. So Balaam hit her to return her to the path.
