All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron,  and the whole community told them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!

The people grumbled to Moses, “What are we going to drink? ”

The next day the entire Israelite community complained about Moses and Aaron,  saying, “You have killed the Lord’s people! ”

But the people thirsted there for water and grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you ever bring us up from Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst? ”

These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires;  their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering  people for their own advantage.

And don’t grumble  as some of them did,  , and were killed by the destroyer.  ,

As the sun was rising, God appointed a scorching east wind.  The sun beat down on Jonah’s head  so much that he almost fainted, and he wanted to die. He said, “It’s better for me to die than to live.”

And now, Lord, take my life from me,  for it is better for me to die than to live.”

You grumbled in your tents  and said, ‘The Lord brought us out of the land of Egypt to hand us over to the Amorites in order to destroy us, because he hates us.

If you are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now  if I have found favor with you, and  don’t let me see my misery  anymore.”

Now the people began complaining openly before  the Lord about hardship. When the Lord heard, his anger burned,  and fire  from the Lord blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.

Why was I not stillborn; why didn’t I die as I came from the womb?

but he went on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree  and prayed that he might die. He said, “I have had enough! Lord, take my life,  for I’m no better than my ancestors.”

For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it all who came out of Egypt under Moses?

We remember the free fish we ate in Egypt,  along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.

Then the whole community broke into loud cries, and the people wept that night.

none of the men who have seen my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested me these ten times and did not obey me,

Is it not enough that you brought us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness?  Do you also have to appoint yourself as ruler over us?

The people quarreled with Moses and said,  “If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the Lord.

Why have you brought the Lord’s assembly into this wilderness  for us and our livestock to die here?

The people spoke against God and Moses: “Why have you led us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread or water, and we detest this wretched food! ”

They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?

So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and each of their leaders gave him a staff, one for each of the leaders of their tribes, twelve staffs in all. Aaron’s staff was among them.

There was no water for the community, so they assembled against Moses and Aaron.

When the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, he said, ‘Go up and possess the land I have given you’; you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. You did not believe or obey him.
