Moses said to Hobab, descendant of Reuel  the Midianite and Moses’s relative by marriage, “We’re setting out for the place the Lord promised, ‘I will give it to you.’  Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”

The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring  , I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

Now Heber the Kenite had moved away from the Kenites, the sons of Hobab,  Moses’s father-in-law,  and pitched his tent beside the oak tree of Zaanannim,  which was near Kedesh.

Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro,  the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb,  the mountain of God.

When they returned to their father Reuel,  , he asked, “Why have you come back so quickly today? ”

You have said, ‘I will cause you to prosper, and I will make your offspring like the sand of the sea, too numerous to be counted.’ ”

Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come! ” Let anyone who hears, say, “Come! ” Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely.

so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.

in the hope of eternal life  that God, who cannot lie,  promised before time began.

He didn’t give him an inheritance in it #— #not even a foot of ground #— #but he promised to give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him,  even though he was childless.

They will ask about Zion, turning their faces to this road. They will come and join themselves  to the  Lord in a permanent covenant  that will never be forgotten.

and many peoples will come and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the  Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us about his ways so that we may walk in his paths.” For instruction will go out of Zion and the word of the  Lord from Jerusalem.

He warned the Kenites,  “Since you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came out of Egypt,  go on and leave! Get away from the Amalekites, or I’ll sweep you away with them.” So the Kenites withdrew from the Amalekites.

The descendants of the Kenite, Moses’s father-in-law,  had gone up with the men of Judah from the City of Palms  , to the Wilderness of Judah, which was in the Negev of Arad.  They went to live among the people.

God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?

Moses let his father-in-law go, and he journeyed to his own land.

Moses’s father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian,  heard about everything that God had done for Moses and for God’s people Israel when the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt.

and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey   #— #the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “I give this land to your offspring,  from the Brook of Egypt  to the great river, the Euphrates River:

for I will give you and your offspring  forever all the land that you see.

I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land they lived in as aliens.

Then Jethro, Moses’s father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat a meal with Moses’s father-in-law in God’s presence.

This was the order of march for the Israelites by their military divisions as they set out.

Keep his statutes and commands, which I am giving you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”

The Lord your God will bring you into the land your ancestors possessed, and you will take possession of it.  He will cause you to prosper and multiply you more than he did your ancestors.

And to you and your future offspring  , I will give the land where you are residing #— #all the land of Canaan #— #as a permanent possession,  and I will be their God.”

Moses agreed to stay with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah  to Moses in marriage.
