Learn to do what is good. Pursue justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the rights of the fatherless. Plead the widow’s cause.

‘The one who denies justice to a resident alien, a fatherless child, or a widow is cursed.’ And all the people will say, ‘Amen! ’

They have become fat  and sleek. They have also excelled in evil matters. They have not taken up cases, such as the case of the fatherless, so they might prosper, and they have not defended the rights of the needy.

The dying blessed me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice.

You sent widows away empty-handed, and the strength of the fatherless  was   crushed.

Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you’re on the way with him to the court, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, and the judge to   the officer, and you will be thrown into prison.

“There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God   or respect people.

“For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect people,

yet because this widow keeps   pestering me,   I will give her justice, so that she doesn’t wear me out   by her persistent coming.’ ”
