So the Israelites set out and reached the Gibeonite cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.

The tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at the high place in Gibeon,

So the people of Kiriath-jearim came for the ark of the Lord and took it to Abinadab’s house on the hill.  They consecrated his son Eleazar to take care of it.

On the west side, from the hill facing Beth-horon on the south, the border curved, turning southward, and ended at Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the descendants of Judah. This was the west side of their border.

Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah #— #two cities, with their settlements.

From the top of the hill the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, went to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then curved to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim  ).

So Adoni-zedek and his people were  greatly alarmed because Gibeon was a large city like one of the royal cities;  it was larger than Ai, and all its men were warriors.

When the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,

They replied to him, “Your servants have come from a faraway land because of the reputation of the Lord your God. For we have heard of his fame, and all that he did in Egypt,

Three days after making the treaty with them, they heard that the Gibeonites were their neighbors, living among them.

But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the community had sworn an oath  to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. Then the whole community grumbled against the leaders.

The south side began at the edge of Kiriath-jearim, and the border extended westward; it went to the spring at the Waters of Nephtoah.

They went up and camped at Kiriath-jearim  in Judah. This is why the place is still called the Camp of Dan  today; it is west of Kiriath-jearim.

They sent messengers to the residents of Kiriath-jearim,  saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and get it.”

Saul’s son had two men who were leaders of raiding parties: one named Baanah and the other Rechab, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite of the Benjaminites. Beeroth is also considered part of Benjamin,

These were Caleb’s descendants. The sons of Hur, Ephrathah’s firstborn: Shobal fathered Kiriath-jearim;

These were the descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim: Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,

and the families of Kiriath-jearim #— #the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. The Zorathites and Eshtaolites descended from these.

Another man was also prophesying in the name of the Lord  #— #Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim.  He prophesied against this city and against this land in words like all those of Jeremiah.
