We would never ever rebel against the Lord or turn away from him today by building an altar for burnt offering, grain offering, or sacrifice, other than the altar of the Lord our God, which is in front of his tabernacle.”

The people replied, “We will certainly not abandon the Lord to worship other gods!

What should we say then?  Is there injustice with God?  Absolutely not!

They said to him, “Why does my lord say these things? Your servants could not possibly do such a thing.

We thought that if they said this to us or to our generations in the future, we would reply: Look at the replica of the Lord’s altar that our ancestors made, not for burnt offering or sacrifice, but as a witness between us and you.

then the Lord your God will choose the place to have his name dwell.  Bring there everything I command you: your burnt offerings, sacrifices, offerings of the tenth, personal contributions,  and all your choice offerings you vow to the Lord.
