And the men of Israel responded to the men of Judah, and said: "I have the greater amount, ten parts, with the king, and so David belongs to me more so than to you. Why have you caused me injury, and why was it not announced to me first, so that I might lead back my king?" But the men of Judah answered more firmly than the men of Israel.

They said to him, "If today you will obey and serve this people, and yield to their petition, and if you will speak lenient words to them, they will be your servants for all days."

And they said to him, "If you please this people, and if you soothe them with words of clemency, they will be your servants for all days."

I will not spare him, nor his powerful words and counterfeit attempts at supplication.

Hatred rises up from disputes. And charity covers all offenses.

A short-tempered man provokes conflicts. Whoever is patient tempers those who are stirred up.

By patience, a leader shall be appeased, and a soft tongue shall break hardness.

Whoever boasts and enlarges himself stirs up conflicts. Yet truly, whoever trusts in the Lord will be healed.

A short-tempered man provokes quarrels. And whoever is easily angered is more likely to sin.

Pestilent men squander a city. Yet truly, the wise avert fury.
