For you said, "Having done what is right does not please you," and, "How will it benefit you, if I sin?"
And if I should be impious, woe to me, and if I should be just, I will not lift up my head, being drenched with affliction and misery.
Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And how is it helpful to us if we pray to him?"
For what portion should God from above hold for me, and what inheritance should the Almighty from on high keep?
For he has said, "Man will not please God, even if he should travel with him."
And so, I will respond to your words, and to your friends who are with you.
I have sinned; what should I do for you, O keeper of men? Why have you set me against you, so that I have become burdensome even to myself?
In your virtue, you confirmed the sea. You crushed the heads of the serpents in the waters.
And you have said, "What have we spoken against you?" You have said, "He labors in vain who serves God," and, "What advantage is it that we have kept his precepts, and that we have walked sorrowfully in the sight of the Lord of hosts?
