And he said to him: "I, too, am a prophet like you. And an Angel spoke to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, 'Lead him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread, and drink water.' " And so he deceived him.
And all the prophets were prophesying similarly, saying: "Ascend to Ramoth Gilead, and go forth to success. For the Lord will deliver it into the hands of the king."
Therefore, the king of Israel gathered together the prophets, about four hundred men, and he said to them, "Should I go to Ramoth Gilead to make war, or should I be at peace?" They responded, "Ascend, and the Lord will give it into the hand of the king."
Is it not by the will of the Lord that I have chosen to ascend to this place, so that I may destroy it? The Lord said to me: 'Ascend to this land, and destroy it.' "
But he sent messengers to him, saying: "What is there between me and you, O king of Judah? I have not come against you today. Instead, I am fighting against another house, to which God instructed me to go promptly. Refrain from acting against God, who is with me, otherwise he may kill you."
