And the deuyll sayde vnto hym: If thou be the sonne of God, commaunde this stone that it be made bread.
And when the tempter came to hym, he sayde: If thou be the sonne of God, commaunde that these stones be made breade.
And the holy ghost came downe, in a bodyly shape lyke a Doue, vpon hym: and a voyce came from heauen, which sayde, Thou art my beloued sonne, in thee I am well pleased.
And was fourtie dayes tempted of the deuyll, and in those dayes dyd he eate nothyng: And when they were ended, he afterwarde hungred.
And Iesus aunswered hym, saying: It is written, that man shall not lyue by bread only, but by euery word of god.
