But the leading priests stirred up the crowd to insist that Pilate release Barabbas to them instead.
But you denied the Holy and Righteous One [His rightful freedom] and asked for a murderer to be released to you [instead].
They shouted out again, “[No], not this man. [We want] Barabbas!” [Note: Ironically, Barabbas’ name means “son of the father”]. Now Barabbas was a robber.
Now the leading priests and [Jewish] elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas [to be released] and for Jesus to be killed.
For he perceived that the leading priests had turned Jesus over to him out of envy.
[So], Pilate again asked them, “Then what shall I do to this one you call the king of the Jews?”
