And while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve apostles, came with a large crowd who were carrying swords and clubs. They had come from the leading priests and elders of the [Jewish] people.
For the Son of man is going [to die], but it is too bad for that person who will turn me over to the Jewish leaders! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”
And immediately, as Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve apostles came with a crowd who were carrying swords and clubs. [They had come] from the leading priests, the experts in the Law of Moses and the [Jewish] elders.
Jesus answered; “It is the person to whom I give a piece of bread after dipping it [in the sauce bowl].” So, when He had dipped the piece of bread, He took it [out] and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
Now He was speaking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he was the one, out of the twelve, who was [soon] going to turn Jesus over [to the Jewish authorities].
