Now when He approached the town gate, He saw a dead man being carried out; it was the only son of his widowed mother. And many people from the town were with her.

Peter then reached out his hand and raised her up; he called the saints [i.e., God’s holy people] and the widows [back into the room] and presented her [to them] alive.

And all the people [in the house] were crying and beating their chests in mourning, so Jesus said [to them], “Do not cry, for the girl is not [really] dead but [only] sleeping.”

And it happened soon after this that Jesus went to a town called Nain [Note: This was a town of Galilee about 6 miles southeast of Nazareth]. His disciples and a large crowd [also] went with Him.

Now when the Lord saw her, He felt very sorry for her and said to her, “Do not cry.”
