and said, “Where have they laid his body?” They answered Him, “Lord, come and see.”

He is not here, for He has risen just as He said [He would]. Come and see the place where the Lord had been lying,

[Now] Mary from Magdala and Mary the mother of Joseph [See verse 40] saw where the body was laid.

He said to them, “Do not be amazed. You are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who was crucified, [are you not]? He has risen from the dead. He is not here. Look at the place where they laid Him.

Then He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So, they went and saw where He was staying and they stayed with Him that day. It was about ten o’clock in the morning. [Note: Hour designations in this book are being calculated by Roman time, but this would have been 4 PM if Jewish time were meant].

When Jesus saw her and her Jewish friends, who had come with her, crying, He felt distressed in His spirit and [visibly] troubled [Note: This last word means to shake with emotion, and seems to have been caused by His deep sympathy for these grieving people],

So, she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved [i.e., probably the apostle John], and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have put Him.”
